President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo has today, February 23, 2018, sworn in Martin A.B.K Amidu as Ghana's first Special Prosecutor following Parliament's approval of his nomination.

The swearing-in ceremony which took place at the Flagstaff House in Accra was graced by the Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo, Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and two relatives of Mr. Martin Amidu.

President Akufo Addo addressing the ceremony said: "On 11th January 2018, the attorney general wrote to me to nominate Mr. Martin Alamisi Burnes Kaiser Amidu for appointment as Sp[ecial Prosecutor. I readily accepted and announced his nomination to the country on the same day and subsequently sought the approval of Parliament. After a spirited and revealing vetting of the nominee, parliament on @0th February 2018, notified me by letter under the hand of the speaker of his decision to approve the nominee.

By the swearing of  Mr.Amidu this day, the process of appointment of the special prosecutor set forth in section 13 of the Act has been completed." the president announced.

The President further assured that with the establishment of the office of the special prosecutor bill, all efforts will be put in place to fight the corruption canker in the country.

He further urged the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Martin Amidu to collaborate with other law enforcement agencies to fight relentlessly and help eliminate corruption.

"We expect the Special prosecutor to discharge his duties vigorously, with courage, without fear or favour, in accordance with the rule of law. The establishment of this office is for a high purpose and must not in any circumstances be used as an avenue for persecution or vengeance. The office will be required to do justice to all manner of persons." President Akufo-Addo concluded.
