Former chief of Staff, Nana Ato Dadzie has predicted that Special Prosecutor nominee, Martin A.B.K Amidu will resign from his job as soon as his independence is compromised.

According to Nana Ato Dadzie who was the Chief of Staff under the Rawlings administration it is only a matter of time before Martin A.B. K. Amidu tenders in his resignation .

He expressed that once the independence of the special prosecutor office is compromised with influence from higher authorities, Martin Amidu will leave the job because it contradicts with his personality and character.

Speaking in a news interview, Nana Ato Dadzie stated that per his knowledge of Mr Amidu, if he senses any form of exertion of influence on him or his office, he will walk away.

"If I do know Martin, if anybody attempts to go that far to try and influence him, I am sure he will back out. He will definitely back out," he predicted.

The former chief of staff further urged that the focus of the debate surrounding the Office of the special prosecutor should be shifted from discussing Martin Amidu as an individual to the establishment of the institution which will be helpful to the state.

"I wish Ghanaians will move the debate from Martin Amidu as a person to the Office of the Special Prosecutor. As a nation we should be pleased that we are bringing out the Special prosecutor as an institution, considering failed attempts in the past."

" Some of the attempts to execute the Special prosecutor role failed in the past due to internal corruption. If the Special Prosecutor's office turns out to be corrupt then we have a problem. But if I heard Mr. Amidu right, he stated he would also prosecute people inside his office. There should be structures in place to ensure that there are protocols for dealing with cases, such that in the near future, people working in that office do not end up being involved in any form of bribery." he added.

President Akufo-Addo's nominee for Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament to be vetted on Tuesday, 13th February 2018, despite a lawsuit challenging his nomination as Special Prosecutor.

The committee then unanimously approved Special Prosecutor nominee Martin Amidu after nine hours of vetting.
