Former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh, yesterday January 21 2017 finally boarded a flight and left The Gambia with Guinean President Alpha Conde. They are believed to be heading for the Guinean capital, Conakry.

The over decade ruler refused to step down after a December 1 vote in which opposition leader Adama Barrow was declared the winner.

Jammeh in his typical white clothing was seen waving at a group of people who had gathered at the airport as he entered the plane. Some reports also indicate that Jammeh will proceed from Conakry to Equatorial Guinea.
Barrow confirmed the departure of Jammeh on Twitter that “I would like to inform you that the 2nd President of the Republic of The Gambia, Yahya Jammeh has left Gambia,”

The president of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Marcel Alain de Souza, in a statement said "No legislative measures" would be taken that would infringe the "dignity, security, safety and rights" of Jammeh or his family, ECOWAS said in a joint declaration with the African Union (AU) and United Nations.

Jammeh could return to The Gambia when he pleased, the statement added, and property "lawfully" belonging to him would not be seized.
