Even before he was sworn in as the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo rejected a $500,000 Christmas gift from a foreign company, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has revealed.
Though he failed to mention the company which brought the gift, the Assin Central MP was of the opinion that by this behaviour, the President had demonstrated that he is not materialistic.
"All these should tell you that Akufo-Addo is not corrupt", he said
President Akufo-Addo has constantly maintained that he is not in politics to enrich himself and would endeavour to root out corrupt practices in the governance system.
In his inaugural speech, Nana Akufo-Addo said told his appointees who were interested in making money to rather go into private business insisting public office is not for money making.
“If your goal in coming into government is to enrich yourself, then don’t come. Go to the private sector. Public service is going to be exactly that; public service!†he stated.
Praising President Akufo-Addo for his incorruptibility, Mr Agyapong stated that he would not permit corrupt practices in his government like it happened in the erstwhile NDC government.
According to him, Nana Addo did not contest for the leadership of the country to reduce himself to bribe taking.
“Can you believe he told that company that if they want to do business in the country, they can go ahead and not overstep their boundaries?†he disclosed on Adom TV's “Badwam†Morning Show on Tuesday.Â

Mr Agyapong has urged persons who have been nominated to head various ministries to walk the president's talk if they are approved by Parliament.
