Alottey Jacobs, a top National Democratic Congress (NDC) member, has lavished praises on Ashantes for what he called their rich cultural heritage.

It comes as the final funeral rites of the Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, who died at the age of 111 after reigning for 39 years, takes place at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

Jacobs who has been wowed the ongoing stunning display of Ashanti culture and tradition told Accra-based Peace FM that he wished he was an Ashanti.

According to him, Ashantes are blessed and their culture is unique.

“I’ve come to respect Ashanti culture. When you look at it very well, it’s like the military setup. So unique, extraordinary; I am not surprised that Ashanti Kingdom goes as far as Cote D’Ivoire and so forth.”

“When you look at the unity, you see that the Asantehene is the epitome of Asante Kingdom or the Ashantis. When the King rises, thousands rise. This kingdom is blessed,” he said.

Meanwhile the funeral entered its third day on Wednesday and will culminate in the burial on Thursday.
