Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been declared as the winner of the Wednesday's presidential elections.

He polled 5,716,626 votes representing 53.85 percent to beat the incumbent, President John Mahama of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) who got 4,713,277 representing 44.70 percent.

Announcing the results, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs Charlotte Osei stated that the collation was based on 271 constituencies.

According to her, figures from the Afram Plains North, Upper West Akim, Sawla Tuna Kalba and Tamale Central constituencies totalling 220,270 were excluded for various reasons.

Considering the gap between Mr Akufo-Addo and President Mahama, however, the excluded number of votes could not affect the positions of the candidates and "it's my duty to declare Nana Addo as President -elect of the Republic of Ghana"

Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive People's Party (PPP) polled 105,682 representing 1.0 percent of votes; Ivor Kobina Greenstreet of the Convention Peoples' Party (CPP) got 25,395 representing 0.24 percent of votes; Dr Edward Nasigrie Mahama of the People's National Convention (PNC) got 22,214 votes representing 0.21 percent; former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings of the National Democratic Party (NDP) got 16,878 representing 0.16 percent of votes; and Jacob Osei Yeboah got 15,889 representing 0.15 percent of votes.
