The second phase of the special voting exercise is currently underway with the same drama that characterised the original one which took place on December 1.

Today's [Sunday] exercise became necessary after some discrepancies left close to 30 percent of the voters expected to take part in the special voting not getting the chance to vote.

Official communication from the Electoral Commission (EC) disclosed that a total of 92,231 out of the 126,875 on the special voters list representing 72.69 percent voted, putting the number of affected persons at 34,644.

After consultations with the Inter-Party Adisory Committee (IPAC), the EC rescheduled with a promise to correct the discrepancies.

But as had been the case last Thursday, many of the 'special voters' could not find their names on the voters register leading to a lot of frustrations.

According to the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Anyaa Sowutuom Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, in her constituency, the EC had not done anything new and they were facing the same challenges they faced last term.

"We are using the same register that we used on the 1st [December]. We haven't heard anything from EC, all we know is that nothing has changed. Two hours after polls were opened in Anyaa Sowutuom, only 10 people had voted", she stated on Citi FM.

The situation at Anyaa Sowutuom seem not to be different from what is pertaining across the country with similar reports coming in from the Brong-Ahafo, Central, Western, Ashanti Regions among others.
