The Black Queens of Ghana defeated Mali 3-1 on Saturday to qualify to the semifinals of the Africa Women’s Nations Cup.

The Queens would not meet host Cameroon in the semifinal clash on Tuesday where they would be hoping to get through to the finals.

Defender Linda Eshun gave Ghana the lead in the 37th minute after she capitalized on a blunder by Mali goalkeeper Goundo Samake to loop the ball into the net.

The Black Queens got their second goal after a nice build-up from the midfield which saw Juliet Acheampong sending a wonderful through ball to Portia Boakye who found Samira Suleman to tap in from close range.

Captain Elizabeth Addo made it three for Yusif Basigi’s side after she was fouled in the 18-yard box. Addo found her way past the Malian defense before being brought down by Oumou Tangara.

The Sweden-based attacker made no mistake as she converted to record her third goal of the campaign.

Lala Dicko pulled a goal back for Mali late in the game but was not enough to secure them the much-needed win as the three-time finalist (Ghana) sealed through to the next round.
