Ghana’s U-20 women’s team the Black Princesses lost 1-0 to New Zealand in their first group match at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup at Papua New Guinea.

An 89th minute strike by Tayla Christensen broke the hearts of the resolute Black Princesses who held a good fight this morning and were hoping to walk away with a point.

New Zealand now sits on top of Group C after France and USA drew goalless in the opening group game.

Ghana came close on few occasions but were unable to find the back of the net with their opponents also maintain their composure at the back.

With Ghana now at the bottom of the table, the Princesses must ensure they win their game against France on Thursday in order to have hopes of qualifying to the next stage of the competition.
