Manchester City put the finishing touches on preparations to face Monaco in the Champions League last 16.

Pep Guardiola's side enjoyed a late afternoon session and seemed in high spirits ahead of Tuesday night's game. The City boss spoke of the beauty of Champions League competition but was full of praise for the French visitors.

He said: 'They are physically strong, the full-backs play like wingers, the wingers play like attacking midfielders. 'The two strikers are fighters in the box - (Radamel) Falcao, (Valere) Germain. They are killers in the box.'We are looking forward to playing against them. Just compliments (to them) because they are a really good team.'

Guardiola went on to add that City are still relative newcomers to the Champions League and should enjoy their time in the spotlight.

'The recent history is quite good but in the long history, Manchester City were not here for a long time.'I would like to convince the players to enjoy that moment. It is beautiful,'he added.

The exposure to a wider audience is something the Spaniard is excited about and delights in. 'All of Europe will watch us, to analyse us, to kill us if we don't win or say how good we are if we do win.'That is the huge experience. It is beautiful to me,' he concluded.

In the other tie of the night, Bayer Leverkusen would face Atletico Madrid in an interesting game. Credit:Mail Online
