The much-delayed Premier League faces another potential legal tussle as Techiman City FC have threatened to place an injunction on the competition if the Ghana Football Association does not give a favourable ruling to their appeal against a decision to demote them over alleged bribery and match-fixing.

Following the FA’s Ethics Committee ruling last Wednesday to demote both Techiman City FC and Wa African United to the third-tier league over their complicity in the alleged bribery case in respect of their Week 22 division one fixture in Wa, Techiman City have hinted they would use every legal means available to overturn the verdict and participate in the 2015/16 Premier League which kicks-off on February 20.

Calling it a travesty of justice, the president of Techiman City, Charles Kwadwo Ntim (Micky Charles), told the Graphic Sports Thursday that he would resist any attempt by the football authorities to prevent his side from participating in the premiership and confirmed he would appeal against the ruling and first use the judicial bodies within the FA structure to seek justice, failing which he would place an injunction on the league.

“We will not allow ourselves to be relegated from the premiership in this manner,” an enraged Micky Charles told the Graphic Sports in an interview Thursday, adding that club had already commenced the process by filing a stay of execution against the ruling.

He described the latest development as “a frame-up” and machination to deny them participation in the premier league and questioned why the Ethics Committee would delay with its judgment when the case was first reported to them in July last year.

“We have paid for the club licensing and affiliation fees and have upgraded our stadium and other facilities, and the Club Licensing Board just inspected our facilities,” he lamented. He vowed to fight against the perceived injustice and not to allow those investments to go down the drain.

The Techiman City boss said he had spoken to his players and psyched them up not to be demoralised by the recent developments, having braced for a tough premiership campaign.
