The new boy has settled as Ghanaians have praised Thomas Partey for his outstanding performance in Ghana’s 1-0 victory over Uganda in their first AFCON match in Gabon on Tuesday.

Some pundits also argue that he deserved to be adjudged the Man of the Match instead of Christian Atsu who won the accolade.

His command in midfield brought memories of Michael Essien and Yaya Toure to some extent.

He combined effectively with Mubarak Wakaso and both provided accurate passes to attackers and fell back to assist the defense when being attacked.

Captain Asamoah Gyan in an interview with Accra-based Happy FM, also praised the midfielder for his exploits on the day.

“I was impressed with his output yesterday but not surprised because to play for one of the best teams in the world (Atletico Madrid), you need to possess something unique, which I believe he has,” he said

“He is a gifted footballer and I’m happy he plays for Ghana and for someone who doesn’t get enough minutes for his club and come to a big tournament like the AFCON and put up such display, I think he’s on the right track. He will become a great player,” he stressed.

The player would be hoping to extend his performance into the next game against Mali on Saturday.
