Transgender activist Alexis Arquette dies at 47

Actress and transgender activist, Alexis Arquette has died at age 47 due to a "lengthy illness." According to her sibling Richmond who confirmed her death in a Facebook post with a press release written by another sibling, Patricia Arquette, Arquette died on Sunday morning while listening to David Bowie's music.

 

Alexis Arquette (born Robert Arquette; July 28, 1969) was an American actress, show performer and activist. She was well known for her transition from male to female and for supporting other people making similar transitions.

In her late 30s, Arquette transitioned from male to female. Her experiences were documented in the film Alexis Arquette: She's My Brother, which debuted at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival. 

Arquette was a voiced supporter of other transgender people, including Chaz Bono, who transitioned from female to male between 2008 and 2010.
