The management of Green Global Resource, a company at the centre of a $1.3million gold scandal involving the former commander of the East Legon District, believes Ghana will be at the losing end if the case is not appropriately dealt with.
At a press conference in Accra on Tuesday June 13, the Director of Strategy and Business Development of the licensed US gold buying firm, James Barbieri said the delay in prosecuting the perpetrators will tarnish the image of Ghana to the outside world and tag the country as unsafe for business

According to him a lot of senior police officials and BNI officers allegedly protecting the suspects in the case and these corrupt officials dent the image of Ghana and drive potential investors away.

He added that 13 boxes of gold confiscated have still not been returned to Green Global Resources Ltd. and they believe it is in the possession of the Police Service.

He called on the President Akufo-Addo, the IGP David Asante Apeatu and Director-General of the CID Bright Oduro to intervene to help the situation.

He also hinted of possible closure of the company if issues are not being addressed by the government.

In March this year five policemen, including the East Legon District Police Commander, DSP Emmanuel Basintale were arrested in connection with a number of alleged fraudulent gold deals running into several millions of Ghana cedis.

DSP Basintale, who is currently on interdiction, is alleged to have led a group of officers to defraud Green Global Resources Company Limited under the pretext of selling 13 gold bars to the company.

Ghana Police Service is yet to respond to the allegations leveled against them by the gold company.
