It is quite clear that the government of this country alone cannot meet the needs of all its citizens. Unfortunately, every citizen expects the government to solve every little problem even in their communities.

Speaking at the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana confab 2017, Chief Executive Officer of the Private Enterprise Federation, Ghana, Nana Osei Bonsu, held that businesses and individuals need to fill the gaps and solve certain societal problems government cannot fix.

He bemoaned that the problems we currently experience as a country is due to lack of proper planning. “Ghana is becoming more reactive than proactive. We wait until an unfortunate incident happens before we take action and implement policies”, he said.

Mr. Bonsu explained that most of the problems can be averted if corporate organizations invest more in planning ahead and fighting a cause which will, in the end, earn them profit and recognition.

Focusing on the theme of the conference dubbed ‘ Cause-related marketing: a panacea for national behavioural change’, he explained that “Cause-related marketing involves selling a product (animate or inanimate) to consumers with the aim of tuning their behaviour towards a good cause while reaping benefits in return.

“80 percent of consumers will switch to a brand that supports a cause they personally care about”.

He, however, advised that cause-related marketing is not free, neither is it philanthropy thus businesses will definitely bear costs, but the ultimate is for them to attract and influence customers to change some negative attitudes, in order to contribute to the overall development of the country.

The strategic marketing conference organized by the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana, this year  took place on the 25th and 26th October 2017 at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra, to deepen the interest of marketers and corporate bodies as well as encourage them to influence positive change in their various businesses to improve the economy of Ghana.
