Lands minister orders the closure of mining company in the Ashanti region

Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Peter Amewu, has ordered the immediate closure of a mining company Jale Professional services in Ashanti region.

In wake of numerous fight against illicit mining in the country, the minister has ordered the company to proceed with their equipment and vehicles to Accra for proper investigation.

According to the Minister, the scale of work by the mining firm is beyond small scale. “So, the pollution of the water bodies and this clearly a concession meant for a small scale and then you are engaged in these foreigners I don’t think this will happen in your country.”

He minister stated that small scale mining concession are reserved for the Ghanaian citizens.

"You change every time not to be identified and the mines have been operating over 30years and this is supposed to be a small scale mining with all respect shut down all mining activities here immediately,  small scale is a preserved of Ghanaians and we don’t want to see faces like you, the work you are doing here cannot be done in your home country.” He directed.
