Over 500 illegal jackpot machines destroyed

The National Gaming Commission (NGC) has destroyed over 500 illegal jackpot machines across the country.

The move forms part of the gaming regulator’s ongoing exercise through its special taskforce to fish-out illegal jackpot machines and operators in the country.

So far a total of 600 jackpot machines operated at bars and restaurants in the Greater Accra Region, Eastern region and the Central region respectively, have been seized and destroyed by NGC.

Speaking to media  after destroying the machines a landfill site at Nsawam - Commissioner at the Gaming Commission, Peter Mireku disclosed that the commission was urrently working on measures to digitize all jackpot machines in order to close the loopholes that has cost the state millions in lost potential revenue.

 “We want to go digital so that we can monitor all jackpot activities to rake in revenue for the state. These analogue ones are illegal and must not be allowed to operate,” he said.

He added that operators of the illegal jackpot machines at the bars and restaurants were most ignorant about how it works, hence using them abusively.
