The Bank of Ghana has cautioned the public not to do business with Oboanipa Ventures Limited – particularly, in making deposits with the said company.

In a statement signed by the Secretary of the BoG Caroline Otoo and made available to the media on Monday 16th October 16, 2017, the central bank stated that it has not licensed the company to receive deposits or operate as a micro financial institution in the country. Hence, it will not bear liability for anyone who runs the risk of engaging in any such transactions with Oboanipa ventures.

In the light of the Oboanipa development, the BoG is currently (through the Registrar General Department) refunding locked deposits of customers of DKM Microfinance Company.

Below is the full statement from the Bank of Ghana:

“It has come to the attention of the Bank of Ghana that an entity named OBOANIPA VENTURES LIMITED is operating a deposit-taking business without the requisite license from the Bank of Ghana.

The above mentioned entity is operating contrary to section 6 (1) of the Banks and Specialized Deposit-Taking Institutions Act, 2016 (Act 930).

The general public is informed that OBOANIPA VENTURES LIMITED has NOT been LICENSED by the BANK OF GHANA to engage in any form of deposit-taking business. Anyone who does business with OBOANIPA VENTURES LIMITED does so at his/her own risk”.
