The government has reassured the business public, particularly in the shipping industry that it will resolve all issues surrounding the effective implementation of the ports paperless system.

The development follows a growing level of complaints from various stakeholders in the shipping or import and export industry that contrary to government's expectations concerning the policy, the paperless system has rather affected their businesses adversely as they have to struggle with learning and adjusting to its demands.

However, in an encounter with the media - Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah said it was normal for there to be some difficulty at the initial stage of the policy's implementation.

"Everything that starts like this must have some hiccups", he said.

He reassured the business public that the government was committed to ensuring the smooth implementation of the policy and have its purpose of bringing efficiency in the port clearance system achieved.

He added that, so far the programme is going well but that there were only a few "problems that they (government) are still facing".

Ghana's government earlier this year announced that effective from 1st September 2017, it expected all clearing operators at the country's ports to shift fully to the paperless system.
