Veteran Ghanaian actor William Addo says he is not the least abashed by the public appeal he made over his deteriorating eye condition.

“It’s better for me to try that to get the response I am getting now rather than you people telling me that you could have said your case and we could all have supported you.”

 

In an exclusive interview with TV3’s Owusu Worae, William Addo – popularly known in his halcyon days as Akpatse – said though the amount for his eye surgery seemed little to many, it meant the whole world to him, especially given the fact that he had not been in active profession for the past half a dozen years.

“For you it’s nothing [but] for me it is the whole world,” he opened up to our reporter.

William Addo successfully underwent surgery to his left eye as part of the first phase of correcting a cataract on his pupil. This followed a public appeal he made for help.

“When I close the right eye, it’s still very blur for me,” he said. “But that’s because I haven’t finished with the medication and therefore the healing process has not started.”

Surgery on the right eye is expected to be conducted soon.

“When I was told that if I don’t get that ¢50 million as soon as possible, there will be rapture to my sight, I panicked. William Addo where am I getting ¢50 million immediately?” he narrated how he reacted to the diagnosis of his ailment.

Many individuals and companies doled out monies for William Addo's surgery.

He expressed regrets how he and his contemporaries neglected the business aspect of their art, explaining that showbiz is about ‘show’ and ‘business’.

Ofori Amponsah popularly known as Pastor Alewa has finally reacted to how he felt after he was unable to quote one Bible verse when interviewed by Bola Ray on Starr Fm.

 During the interview, Bola Ray asked Ofori Amponsah what his favourite verse in the bible was and added that he quote the bible verse. Answering the question, Ofori Amponsah said, “Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved."

Asked by Bola Ray where in the bible that verse could be located, Amponsah embarrassingly responded: “I can’t give you the exact place it can be found.”

When asked by Jessica Opare-Saforo on Celebrity Fanzone as to how he felt after he was unable to quote the bible verse given people started making fun of him because of his pastoral claims, the All4Real man opined:

“I thought quoting bible verses is for children. This is how I read the bible; I read the bible from my heart, I just don’t memorize it. It’s like reading it and practicing what it says, I don’t lay much emphasis on memorizing the verses.”

On whether his family supported his decision on going back to do secular music, he said, “actually I desire what I want to do. It is my personal decision and I have the final say, so yes, they supported it, and I sing about love.”

Ofori Amponsah, however, revealed that all is set for him to release a song with MOBO award winner, Samini very soon.

Nick Gordon is breaking his silence over a year after the death of his former girlfriend, Bobbi Kristina Brown.

The 20-year-old will appear on Dr. Phil to speak about his relationship with Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown's daughter, who died last July at the age of 22. Gordon first sat down with Dr. Phil in March 2015, just months after he found his girlfriend unresponsive in a bathtub.

 

In a promo released on Monday, Dr. Phil asks Gordon, "Did you murder Bobbi Kristina Brown?"

On June 24, Bobbi Kristina's court-appointed conservator, Bedelia Hargrove, filed a $10 million wrongful death civil lawsuit against Gordon -- who performed CPR on her before paramedics arrived on the scene -- accusing him of assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress and transferring money from Brown's account into his own without authorization. He was also accused of injecting her "with a toxic mixture."

Gordon's lawyers slammed the lawsuit, claiming it was both "slanderous and meritless." No criminal charges have been filed against Nick in connection with Bobbi Kristina's death.

In March, an autopsy report confirmed that Bobbi Kristina died from complications caused by her face being immersed in water, along with drug intoxication. Randy Kessler, an attorney for Gordon, told CBS New York that he hopes the new details regarding the cause of Brown's death -- officially listed as lobar pneumonia -- will put to rest "all the negativity" towards Gordon, who has "always maintained his innocence."

Gordon's sit-down interview with Dr. Phil will air on Thursday, April 28.

Ice Cube blasted Gene Simmons' rap criticisms as N.W.A. was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Friday (08Apr16).

The KISS frontman and Hall of Fame member recently claimed rappers should not even be considered for inclusion into the coveted institution, but Ice Cube has responded, insisting the rocker is wrong and maintaining his former hip-hop group N.W.A. had the rock 'n' roll spirit.

 

Ice Cube addressed the comments onstage at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York as he shared the honour with his former bandmates Dr. Dre, MC Ren, DJ Yella and the late Eazy-E, who was represented onstage by his mother Kathie, following an induction speech by Kendrick Lamar.

"Now, the question is, are we rock & roll? And I say you goddamn right we rock & roll (sic)," Ice Cube said. "Rock & roll is not an instrument, rock & roll is not even a style of music. Rock & roll is a spirit... And what connects us all is that spirit... Rock & roll is not conforming to the people who came before you, but creating your own path in music and in life. That is rock & roll, and that is us.

"So rock & roll is not conforming. Rock & roll is outside the box. And rock & roll is N.W.A. I want to thank everybody who helped induct us into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and I just want to tell the world, 'Damn, that s**t was dope'."

MC Ren concluded his speech by calling out the rocker, who predicts rap will die out, and saying, "And I want to say, to Mr. Gene Simmons, hip-hop is here forever! Get used to it! Get used to it! We supposed to be here!"

During their speeches, the bandmates all made dedications to Eazy-E for his impact on the group's success. The late star, real name Eric Wright, died in 1995 from an AIDS-related illness.

Dr. Dre said, "Make some noise for Eazy-E. I'd like to thank Eric Wright. There is no way that we would be on this stage right now with N.W.A being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame without him," while Ice Cube added, "The late great, often-imitated, but never duplicated Eazy motherf**king E. This is his vision... So we love Eazy, we miss him. I think about him all the time because he was such a smart businessman and he knew the pulse of the people... We just all feel blessed for Eazy-E's life, and I hope we all remember him forever."

The group did not perform at the induction ceremony because they could not put on the "next level" set they wanted.

Meanwhile, Deep Purple was inducted by Metallica's Lars Ulrich, Cheap Trick was feted by Kid Rock, Rob Thomas paid tribute to inductees Chicago, and Steve Miller was introduced by The Black Keys.

Popular rapper Kwaw Kese has finalised his marriage to Efiewura actress, Doris Kyei Baffour  after the white wedding came off this afternoon in Accra.

Self-acclaimed originator of tongue-twisting rap in Ghana, Quata Budukusu known in real life as Jacob Kwame Etroo is blaming Ghanaian DJ's for his loss of inspiration to make music in the past six years.

Speaking on Adom TV’s Bisa Nwom music request show, he said “I lost inspiration for doing music in Ghana because Ghanaian DJ’s have created the impression if you don’t sing a particular style there’s no way they will play that song.”

Quata said he is tired because the Ghana music industry does not allow artistes to be creative and do new things.

The former tongue-twister said he does not understand why radio DJs have pushed Ghanaian musicians into a corner where they are forced to sing songs with the same style and tempo.

He however revealed that after spending six years in hibernation, Ghanaians should expect nothing but the best from him because his comeback is to change Ghanaian music.

He is currently promoting his two new singles “Wind N Go low” and “One life to live”.

Ghanaian Musician cum Comedian, A-Plus has said that he is not prepared to compose songs for any of the political parties.The reason, A Plus speaking on Hitz FM said is due to his belief that he has grown past the age when he used to compose songs for political parties.

“My focus is now is to come out with songs that I can present to Amnesty International and United Nations representative in Ghana but not NPP-NDC politics. I now see it as infantile and I have grown past it,” the controversial musician noted.

This aim, he said is the reason why he sought ideas from intellectuals like the Vice President for IMANI Ghana, Kofi Bentil among others before he released his new track, Yesterday Today’s Tomorrow.

A plus also known as Kwame Asare Obeng also claimed in the interview that it was just not okay for musicians to be releasing peace songs on election years.

According to him, that creates a bad impression about the country in the eyes of the international community.

A UK-based Ghanaian preacher, Brian Amoateng has paid the surgical bills of veteran actor, William Addo.

This adds up to previous assistance offered the actor since coming out publicly to announce he was on the verge of losing his sight, if he is not able to raise five thousand Ghana cedis to have surgery.

 

He told Accra-based radio, Hitz FM weeks ago that he was gradually losing his sight as a result of glaucoma and cataract. He needed immediate care or he would lose his sight.

The UK-based Ghanaian preacher also offered to pay off the surgical bills for Mr. William Addo.

Elated William Addo expressed gratitude to pastor Brian Amoateng and his foundation for their support.

The wedding ceremony took place at Hon. Ursula Owusu’s residence at East Legon. On Thursday, they had the traditional wedding in Kumasi.

This is Kwaw Kese’s second marriage. He divorced his American wife, Ann in 2014 after a six-year marriage.

Upper West musician, Wiyaala has been confirmed to perform at the world famous music festival set in the historic grounds of Charlton Park, a stately home in the county of Wiltshire in the United Kingdom during the last weekend of July 2016.

 

Founded by Peter Gabriel in 1982, Womad has hosted festivals in more than 30 countries, with the WOMAD experience being enjoyed by a collective audience of millions. The festival exists to promote multi-culturism around the world about which Peter Gabriel says, "Music is a universal language – it draws people together and proves, as well as anything, the stupidity of racism.”

Wiyaala, who is scheduled to perform for one hour said: "This invitation means everything to me. Meeting Cypress real name Christopher Sowah for the first time, there wouldn’t be any inclination this chap is any different from the bloke on the next block but any such supposition would be terribly wrong for in this 20 something youth brews great ideas.

 

Not content with his current blog, Christopher disclosed he is working with his team to outdoor cypressghana.com an online platform with video streaming and online radio offerings.

Ever the lover of the arts, Cypress recounted how even in Junior High School through to Senior High School he adored celebrities and craved to meet them detailing how at age 14 he began writing pieces and even managed a music duo named Twins but quickly realized managing went beyond talking but required developing links and raising funds to push for visibility.

The SAMMO Senior High School alumnus asserts “In school my life was all about entertainment, skipping school from Cape Coast and sneaking to Accra for shows etc. Luckily I had the chance to meet Jon Germain back in the day and that was some experience I have always cherished.”

Assigned as the social media person for the Excellence in Broadcasting Network, I asked the man who describes himself as quiet, soft and loves to be in his space how things are different now that he is in someone’s employment aside handling his own project.

“cypressgh.blogspot.com is my business so I can sleep and wake up to do stuff but EIB is someone’s business and I have to offer updates 24/7 or risk receiving a caution” Mr. Sowah posited.

Through the course of his work Cypress has interviewed Dru Hill a.k.a Sisqo, Tuface, Sheyi Shay, Wizkid among others. His one regret is not having enough funds to have bought a video camera to record those interviews curiously however Cypress contends none of his interviews have as yet intrigued him.

Pressed if there was a damsel catering to his manly needs, the IPMC graduate submitted: “there’s a girl I admire but it’s up to her to confirm her feelings for me.”

Emerging as the bread winner for the family on his mother’s side involving 3 sisters and a bother, Cypress born in Ghana but raised in Liberia and Virginia in the U.S because of the required services of his charted accountant dad, relishes the chance to relocate to the U.S stressing “why not, I would love to return to Virginia. Without a doubt with access to gadgets and infrastructure, my dream to own a credible video streaming platform and online radio would be fasttracked.”

Born to a Ga father and a Fante mother, Cypress says he can’t speak the Fante language but comprehends the Ga language although he is not fluid with the speaking.

“The name cypress means a lot to me, I chose it because of the evergreen leaves of the cypress tree denoting longevity of my brand. To think that bosses, my mum and family all call me Cypress shows my work is being appreciated. They even forget I am Christopher” the boss of the cypress blog declared.

It is no secret that corporate Ghana lacks an understanding of the role of bloggers in enhancing their image, reaching publics and giving products and services mileage hence their reluctance to duly pay decent sums to bloggers for work done.

Cypress makes the case crisply: “Ghanaian companies display unwillingness to advertise on Ghanaian blogs, seek freebies or deliberately slash amounts even agreed upon. The disregard is unacceptable so for me when the time for a campaign expires I quickly take down the ad. Its time Ghanaians generally appreciate the work of bloggers that it takes sleepless nights to generate good pieces, slave to buy expensive data to stay online among others.

“Corporations must pay bloggers well so we can offer better content. I hear in Kenya and Nigeria, they treat their bloggers better. Currently I am in talks with a few companies as well as the Ghana meet Naija organizers and the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards guys.”

According to Cypress, the EIB network experience has been good and on his boss Bola Ray had this to say: “Mehn Bola is a man with a vison. If you tap into his vison you can have a bright future. I see him as my dad. He is frank about what he sees and encourages others to be the best they can be. Anywhere Bola will go I shall follow him because I know what he can do.”

Hiplife artiste Kwaw Kese on Thursday  has remarried, two years after his divorce with former wife, Ann.

Ghanaian gospel musician, Bernice Offei, has resigned as a banker to be a full time gospel musician.

The L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. opened the door -- literally -- to a gunman who pumped 7 bullets into Suge Knight's body ... and his lawyer says it's all a sinister, shocking conspiracy.

 

Suge's new lawyer, Thaddeus Culpepper, filed legal docs in which he alleges a Sheriff's deputy was working a venue -- 1 OAK in WeHo -- for the 2014 VMA weekend when he let the shooter inside the club.

According to the docs, surveillance video clearly shows Deputy Henry Boyd letting the gunman inside the club, shortly before shots rang out.
The docs go on to allege the shooter confessed that Dr. Dre paid him and a friend $50k for the hit. The docs then claim the Sheriff's dept. inexplicably released the shooter from custody.

Culpepper goes on to say he is privy to video shot at LAX which allegedly shows Deputy Boyd helping the gunman flee the country.

The docs claim Deputy Boyd was questioned by authorities about the shooting and subsequently resigned from the department.

We reached out to Dre's camp ... so far no word back.
