Akufo-Addo Is The New Evangelist In Town

Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, stole the show at the one-week celebration of the late First Vice Chairman of the party in the Western Region, Ben Kwaw, held at the Mount Olivet Methodist Church at Lagos Town near Takoradi yesterday.

The NPP flagbearer stunned the mourners at the packed-to-capacity church auditorium when he mounted the pulpit and exhibited his preaching prowess and knowledge of the Holy Scriptures.

This was after the Superintendent Minister of the church, Rev Dr Christina Dzakpasu, had invited him to deliver his message in the course of the programme.

After consoling the numerous family members, sympathizers of the NPP as well as friends and loved ones who thronged the place, Nana Akufo-Addo virtually preached to the mourners.

Quoting from Romans 14:8, the NPP flagbearer remarked, “If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord,” and this was greeted with a loud shout of “Amen!” from the mourners.

Stunned by the dexterity and zeal with which the NPP leader quoted the scriptures and his subsequent words of encouragement, especially to the bereaved family, the Superintendent Minister had no other option than to grab one of the microphones and remark, “Nana Addo is now an evangelist.”

The Reverend Minister’s statement was greeted with laughter, clapping and shouts of “Yes it shall come to pass; the battle is the Lord’s.”

The arrival of the NPP leader and his entourage at the auditorium of Mount Olivet Methodist Church sent the mourners into an ecstatic mood, as they struggled to shake hands with Nana Addo.

The bodyguards of the 2016 NPP flagbearer had a tough time controlling the crowd when he entered the Methodist Church and tried to greet the sympathizers who were already seated.

The mourners, some of whom were clad in the party’s paraphernalia, boldly showered praises on Nana Addo.

They assured him that the NPP would win the November 7 general election.

Nana Addo, who was overwhelmed by the rousing welcome accorded him by the mourners, raised his hands to acknowledge their cheers.

He was accompanied by Freddie Blay, Acting National Chairman of the NPP; Peter Mac Manu, NPP’s Campaign Manager; Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen; Sammy Awuku and other bigwigs of the party in the region such as Papa Owusu-Ankomah, MP for Sekondi and Joe Ghartey, MP for Essikado-Ketan.

The rest were Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, MP for Takoradi; Joseph Boahene Aidoo, former Western Regional Minister and Joseph Cudjoe, MP, Effia.

Mr Benjamin Kwaw, who until his sudden demise was acting as the Regional Chairman of the party, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2016 after allegedly collapsing during a keep-fit exercise.

He died at the age of 56 and would be buried on April 30, 2016 at his home town in Enchi, according to the family head, Ebusuapanyin Ndebie.
