Kumasi residents had hoped there would have been a new Presiding Member (PM) by Wednesday to help advance their economic and developmental goals but the meeting rather ended in fisticuffs.

When Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) members met at the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Hall in Kumasi on Tuesday, entrenched positions taken by the two contending parties and their supporters, Nana Kofi Senya, Assembly Member for Suame and Nana Baffour Agyei Kesse, the Adumhene who is a government appointee meant this meeting also yielded no fruits just as previous ones had ended.

The Adumhene stepped down for Senya but members had to still vote 'YES' or 'NO' to either confirm him or not. At the end of the election 65 assembly members voted NO against Nana Kofi Senya, whilst 62 people voted YES, which does not represent at least two-third majority. The winner must secure 98 votes to be confirmed.

The Asawase constituency secretary of the NDC, Mr Yakubu Tony Aidoo, frustrated at the uncompromising nature of participants is said to have described them in unsavory terms leading others to flare up and start pummeling him drawing in others who took sides.

Another meeting for a vote is said to be held on Friday, September 30 and it is hoped on the 9th attempt Assembly Members would get it right.
