Akufo-Addo names Juabenhene, Okudzeto, 11 others for Council of State

The President Nana Akufo-Addo has, pursuant to Article 89 of the constitution, appointed thirteen persons as members of the Council of State.

They are Juabenhene, Nana Otuo Serebuor II; former President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Sam Okudzeto; former Mayor of Accra, Stanley Adjiri Blankson; Nana Kofi Obri Egyiri II and Mrs Alberta Cudjoe.

The rest are Alhaji Aminu Amadu, Dr Margaret Amoakohene, Alhaji Sahanun Moqtar, Mrs Georgina Kusi, Alhaji Sule Yiremiah and Mr Paa Kofi Ansong.

The President, subject to the approval of parliament and also in accordance with Article 89 has appointed former Chief of Defence  Staff, General (rtd) J.B. Danquah and former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Nana Owusu Nsiah as members of the council. 

However, since there is no living former Chief Justice, the President was not able to appoint one as required by Article 89.

The President of the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede XIV will be an ex-officio member of the council in fulfilment of the same article.

The composition of the council is will be completed after the election of the 10 regional representatives to the council on Thursday.
