Armed men attack sprinter bus, injure 8 passengers & 2 police officers

Eight suspected armed men launched an attack on a Mercedes Benz Sprinter bus on Wednesday morning, injuring eight passengers and two police officers at Ayirebikrom, near Manso Agoroyesum, in Ashanti Region.

One of the police officers was shot in the process but did not die and is receiving treatment Manso Agroyesum Government Hospital.

The injured have been admitted at the same hospital for medical attention. The identities of the police officers were yet to be known.

According to reports, the armed men did not take anything from the passengers, but subjected the passengers and the two police officers who joined the bus along the way into beatings.

Narrating the ordeal to Prime News Ghana, driver of the vehicle, Silas Kusi said the armed men, numbering eight, were all with AK 47 rifle.

He added that, with about 200 meters to Ayirebikrom Township, the attackers emerged from the bush and started firing gun shots indiscriminately towards them.

The driver said he had no option than to pull over due to intensity of the shooting but the suspected armed men, entered the buss and started brutalizing them, leading to the injuries.

Silas Kusi said one of the police officers decided to struggle with the suspected armed robbers which compelled them to shot him [the police officer] in the proccess.
