The Ghana Police Service have denied knowledge of masked men who allegedly sparked violence at the Bawaleshie Polling Station during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

Several videos captured some men who are purported to a political party vigilante group attacking some NDC members at the Bawleshie Polling Station.

One of such videos was when Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram Sam George could be seen being brutalised.

The NDC had to pull out of the by-elections saying that they could not guarantee the safety of their members.

They subsequently went to the office of the Inspector General of Police David Asante ApeAtu to ask if he knew the mask men.

The IGP, however, told the NDC that he does not recognise these masked men and that the Police will launch an investigation to unmask these men.

Joy News also spoke with the Director General of Operations of the Ghana Police Service DCOP Alex Mensah who also said the service need to investigate to know if these men are policemen or not.

"We need to investigate to see if those men are policemen or from the national security, my men are not masked, so if these men are masked where are they from?,".

The mask men arrived at the Bawaleshie Polling Station in an armoured looking vehicle with the inscription "Police SWAT".

They were very armed, well-built individuals who were dressed in khaki trousers with a black mask.

The Police in a statement says the IGP has launched an investigation into the matter.
