The ban on drumming and noise-making in the Oguaa Traditional Area has been lifted today after rituals were performed midnight, Thursday.

Although the traditional council has the mandate to lift the ban, certain residents have implied the lifting was done prior to the set time because the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had offered huge sums to use the city for its campaign launch.

Nana Kweku Enu III, a member of the 2016 ‘Fetu Afahye’ Planning Committee, however in a Radio Ghana interview debunked the bribery claims submitting that the council was petitioned by NDC to be allowed to use the city for their event.

He stated festival stakeholders then performed rites to lift the ban but without cash inducements as being bandied about adding NDC party executives indeed visited the council with the customary schnapps beverage.

“The ban on funeral activities and fishing has not been lifted, but drumming and noise-making which was set to be lifted on 14th August will be done today” he added.

On the assertion that the traditional council was favouring one political party to the detriment of another, Nana Kweku Enu III noted “this year is an election year, any of the political party can come with their message, we do not belong to any political party.”

The ‘Fetu Afahye’ festival will be concluded on September 3, 2016.
