The Executive Secretary of the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) has disclosed that the much-awaited Book and Research Allowance for University lecturers has been paid.

Speaking at the second congregation of the Ghana Institute of Journalism Graduate School, Prof Muhammad Salifu said any lecturer whose account has not been credited yet, should expect it on Monday, August 21, 2017.

The Book and Research allowance is almost always a point of controversy between government and lecturers at the beginning of every academic year because of delays in payment.

The University Teachers Association of Ghana [UTAG] in July this year called on the NPP led government to as matter of urgency pay the Book and Research allowance, failing which they will resort to industrial action.

The Executive Secretary of NCTE urged the lecturers to use the resource for its intended purpose because the Tertiary Council will soon institute a scheme to measure their level of productivity.

Prof Salifu added that plans are in place for the establishment of a fund to provide resources for competitive research into key areas of national priority.
