The Northern Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu has called for calm at Walewale in the West Mamprusi district following agitations by irate youth of the party over the nomination of a new District Chief Executive.

The Walewale District Assembly rejected President  Nana Akufo-Addo's nominee, Saka Sayuti, necessitating the nomination of Abu Amadu, but the youth have unanimously rejected the second nominee even before the assembly met to vote. They stormed the NPP office in the district and vandalised party properties.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Mr Naabu described their action as a disgrace to the party and appealed to them to cease fire and resort to party structures to resolve the matter.

He told the youth to calm down and that their concerns will be addressed properly.

Bugri Naabu asked the youth to use appropriate channels and not violence to express their grievances and promised to consult the party hierarchy to resolve the impasse.

He also appealed to  all NPP youth to desist from using violence to as a means to get their problem solved because it embarrass the party, the government, and the president.
