The Minister of Health has revealed the report of the Central Medical Stores, CMS, fire incident has been submitted to the Auditor-General for action.

Kwaku Agyemang-Manu says following recent public outcry over why some twelve people indicted with arson in the report have yet to be prosecuted, the Auditor-General called for the document and after going through, requested a forensic audit is conducted on the report.

Over GHC350 million worth of drugs and other medical supplies were destroyed in January 2015 at the Central medical stores located at Tema

An investigative committee found the cause of the fire to be arson and named one Samuel Sogbe, a labourer as being involved.

Twelve other officials from the Ministry of Health were fingered in the crime and interdicted in 2016.

They include Alhaji Yusif Inua, Member of the Interim Management Committee of the CMS, Zeboat Doh, Warehouse Manager,  Iddrisu Abdul-Karim, Acting Head of the CMS; Peter Ekow Gyimah, Former Head of CMS, Gifty Esi Mankartha, Principal Pharmacist/Warehouse Manager and Ibrahim Laryeah Amartey, Line Warehouse Manager/General Pharmaceuticals Unit.

Others were Peter Atiba Addah, Storekeeper, Victoria Anning, Senior Supply Officer/Project Stores, Kwame Foli, Warehouse Manager and Mathias Senaya, Warehouse Manager/General Pharmaceuticals, Abdul Karim and James Benjamin Annan, Pharmacist/System Analyst

They allegedly orchestrated the act to cover up a grand corrupt scheme involving the stealing of medical supplies for sale to some pharmacies.

Responding to a question at a meet the press series on why there has been no court action,  Mr Agyeman-Manu said the Auditor-General has already gone through procurement to select a consultant for the audit. He asked for time so the needed evidence could be assembled for prosecution. There is more in the video below
