The Court of Appeal has dismissed a motion filed by suspended lawyer Francis Xavier Sosu seeking to stay the implementation of his suspension.

The General Legal Council (GLC) banned him from practicing for three years after he was found guilty of overcharging a client and advertising on social media.

According to the Council, he flouted the Professional Conduct and Etiquette rules by advertising his law firm’s name and address on social media platform, Facebook.

Lawyer Sosu after the suspension filed an appeal, describing his suspension as a “substantial miscarriage of justice’’ and a violation of Article 19 (1) of the 1992 Constitution.

He further stated that the decision of the GLC is “harsh and excessive’’.

The court presided over by Mr. Justice Henry Anthony Kwofie on Wednesday, July 26 dismissed the motion pending a determination of the substantive appeal case.

The judge said the jurisdiction of the court had not been triggered appropriately.
