Court remands motorbike rider

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded one Kwaku Osei, a motorbike rider, for conspiring and abetting with two others to commit crime to wit robbery.



Kweku pleaded not guilty to the charges but was remanded by the court to reappear on Dec. 15.

Presenting the facts of the case, Police Chief Inspector Victor Dosoo, told the court that, the complainant operates a forex bereau at Kwame Nkrumah Circle.

He said on November 28, at about 1100 hours, the complainant received a call from one K.B, who directed him to Weija old barrier to meet him with USD$13,200 to buy.

He said the complainant without hesitation, hired the accused to ride with him to Weija, where he went and transact the business with the said K.B.

The prosecution said on his way back to Kwame Nkrumah Circle with Kweku, on reaching Kaneshie First Light, and without the consent of the complainant, the accused person diverted to Cocoa Clinic area.

Mr Dosoo said the complainant who became suspicious of the diversion questioned, Kweku but he ignored him.

On reaching a section of the road near Azumah Nelson Sports Complex, two young men also on a motorbike crossed them and signaled the accused to stop.

According to the prosecution, Kweku stopped, and one of the two young men shot and robbed the complainant of an amount of GHc 190,000.00 and USD$ 7,000.

He told the court that, Kweku fled during the act and later resurfaced under the pretext of showing concern and rushed the complainant to Korle Bu teaching hospital for medical attention, where is currently responding to treatment.
