The Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Angwubutoge Awuni, has died.

DCOP Awuni reportedly died at the Police Hospital in Accra on Monday. He had been ill.

Until his transfer to the Eastern Region in December 201, DCOP Awuni was the Commander of Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service.

A very disciplined and outspoken officer, DCOP Awuni, in 2012, caused the arrest of the former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Armah Ashietey, for allegedly interfering in an ongoing biometric registration exercise in the Korley Klottey Constituency in Accra.
