"You are a big liar, show me any document, you don't have any document because what you are saying is from your mind, let him know that he is a thief, you have stolen through your life and even through your education."

Those were the corrosive and acidic insults that spewed from the jaws of Deputy Trades Minister Carlos Ahenkorah unto former Deputy Education Minister Okudjeto Ablakwa in a verbal spat.

The two were being interviewed on Tuesday over revelations some businessmen who sat on a table with President Akufo-Addo during the Ghana Expatriate Business Awards in Accra, paid as much as $100,000 for the privilege.

The Minority in Parliament led by Asawase MP Muntak Mubarak has described the payments as an act of corruption and called for a parliamentary probe.

The Trade Ministry in a statement said it was not responsible for the charges, explaining the funds were being raised by the organisers of the award and the Ministry only facilitated the process.

But MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa has rejected the explanations and called for the return on the money, saying the confirmation by the Trade Ministry that indeed expatriate business people were charged and had to pay US$100,000 to gain access to the table of the President marks a new low.

After Tuesday's sitting in Parliament, Mr Ablakwa in an interview again insisted the office of the President has been used in profiteering "this is plain corruption simple, corruption has never come this clear," he said.

But this did not sit well with Mr Ahenkorah who launched a scathing verbal attack on Mr Okudjeto Ablakwa accusing him of peddling falsehood and lies about the whole issue because he had no documentation to back his[Okudjeto] claims.

The Deputy Minister questioned the moral right of the North Tongu MP, angrily saying "let him know that he is a thief, you have stolen through your life and you have even lied through your education."

Later in a radio interview, Mr Ahenkorah defended his accusations, citing an incident some years ago in which 25,000 cedis was lost from the vehicle of Mr Ablakwa and questioned where he got such an amount of money working as just an MP.
