The Professional Standards Unit of the Ghana Immigration Service has arrested a 20-year-old man for claiming to be an immigration Officer and defrauding some people under false pretence.

The suspect, Justice Mensah was picked up at his residence at Sowutuom in Accra, on Tuesday after he was reported by two persons who had been duped of various sums of money.

The victims reported him to the Ghana Immigration Service after suspecting that Justice could be a fake officer.

The payments, which were made to the suspect in installment were intended to facilitate their recruitment into the immigration service.

The Ghana Immigration Service is currently investigating the young man after which he would be handed over to Police for prosecution.

Earlier this year, over 16,000 unemployed youth from Greater Accra Region showed up during a recruitment exercise at the El Wak Stadium to be enrolled in the Ghana Immigration Service.

In all, about 84,000 people applied to be recruited across the country, but according to the Immigration Service, only 500 were expected to be selected to join the Service nationwide.

The Ghana Immigration Service has since then issued a caution to the public to be wary of fraudsters parading themselves as officials of the Service.
