The family of an army captain lynched by some residents of Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region is demanding that the perpetrators of the dastardly act are be found and brought to justice.

Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama, a member of the 5th Battalion of Infantry who was the detachment commander of army troops on operational duties in the area was attacked and killed by residents while jogging at about 8:30 am on Monday May 29.

According to reports, he was mistaken for an armed robber by the residents because he had a gun on him while jogging.

Speaking on behalf of the family in an interview on Joy FM's Super Morning Show, Professor Fred McBagonluri, an uncle to Captain Mahama expressed shock at the fate that had befallen his nephew whom he described as "always wanting to be in the military".

"We have stayed up all night since the news reached us at about 11pm on Monday because we have been shocked that somebody who lived his life in service to Ghana could be murdered this way. What can I say, this is such a tragedy".

"I hope justice will be served for Maxwell. A soldier is supposed to die in war but not to be murdered in cold blood by the same people he's sworn an oath to protect and such acts makes me regret my nationality", he stated.
