According to Supt. Bayor the driver of the Gas tanker Eklu Agbormegah, 47, was travelling from Takoradi to the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant when the vehicle developed a fault.

He then moved to the welding shop for the problem to be solved. In the process, the vehicle exploded and killed the apprentice instantly and injured the others.

It is, however, not known if the vehicle was filled with gas.
