The Minister of Gender, Children and Social protection has begun processes to assist the woman who was jailed 11 years last week for allegedly selling alcohol laced with marijuana.

Ama Forson, a mother of nine and a drinking bar operator, was sentenced to to 11 years with hard labour for selling alcohol mixed with marijuana to the public.

The troubled mother, who stood quietly in the dock while her sentence was being read, started wailing uncontrollably immediately the Judge, Mr Aboagye Tandoh, pronounced the number of years she was to spend in incarceration.

Madam Forson's sentencing was strongly been criticised by members of the public, who called on the Gender Ministry to review her case.

In a series of tweets on Monday evening, the Gender Minister, Nana Oye, said her ministry was in talks with the Attorney-General’s department to understand the circumstances of the case and to provide support for Madam Forson.

She said Madam Forson's children would also be catered for by officials of the Social Welfare Department.
