Minister for Special Development Initiatives says the GH₵800, 000 allocation made by the ministry for the development of a website was an oversight.
According to Mavis Hawa Koomson, the allocation per her documents was rather supposed to be GH₵ 80,000.
The website allocation among others such as GH₵132,000,000.00 for the construction of solar mechanized borehole approved by the Finance Committee of Parliament has been condemned by a section of the public as being outrageous.
But the Minister for the sector Mavis Hawa Koomson in a radio interview rejected reports that her Ministry intends to spend an amount of GH₵800, 000 for the development of a website.
“How on earth can we use GH₵800,000 for just a website? Are we mad? To be frank with you when I heard the report I called the budget officer only to realise that it was a typo.â€
She continued, “how on earth can we use GH₵800, 000 for this Ministry’s website? What kind of website are we building? Please, it is not GH₵800, 000…it was typo error.â€
According to her, the correct figure is GH₵80, 000, indicating further that the amount will not only be used in building a website for the Ministry but the three development authorities and their regional offices.
When asked how that could have been an oversight, she said: “Even [I] myself when I saw it I was surprised until today that we all got to know about it.â€
The new Ministry led by Hawa Koomson presented a total budget of GhC1,239,490,969 for approval by parliament for its operations in the ensuing year.
