The Police Service has promoted the four officers who arrested two of their colleagues who attempted to rob a GCB Bank bullion van at Maame Krobo in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region.

The leader of the patrol team, Sergeant Sulemana Abubakari was promoted to the rank of an Inspector, the officer in charge of the bullion van, Constable Frederick Addae is now a Corporal, both Constable Kweku Gabenu and Constable Eric Webo have been promoted to Lance Corporal rank according to Superintendent Cephas Arthur, Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service.

The arrested cops, Corporal Elvis Mensah and Lance Corporal Daniel Kissi,  were arrested following their attempted robbery which led to the death of the van driver, David Kofi Sarpong, aged 52, but escaped a day later when they were being transported to the Eastern Regional Police Command in Koforidua.

Their escape sparked altercations between residents of the Afram Plains and the police leading to the destruction of the Donkorkrom Police Station and the subsequent withdrawal of officers from the area by the police administration.

The robber cops, however, have since been re-arrested, put before court and remanded in prison custody.
