President Akufo-Addo at the 62nd Independence celebration in Tamale in the Northern Region of Ghana said the three regions of the north are beginning to fulfil their potential of being the food basket of the nation and also applauded farmers for embracing planting for food and jobs programme.

This is the first time the Independence day celebration is being held outside Accra.

''I am happy to see that finally the 3 regions of the North of our country under the programme for planting for food and jobs, are beginning to fulfil their potential as being the food basket of our nation. The way and manner farmers in these regions have embraced the programme is of great encouragement for me,'' President Akufo-Addo.

He urged farmers to do more to enhance productivity and development in the region and country at large.

President Akufo-Addo also described Ghana as a beautiful country and that it should be explored and admired by its inhabitants, adding to that he said the tourism industry must do more to do in the sense that when they get it right with the internal Ghanaian tourists, they will be ready to cope with foreign tourists.

''I hope most people will get to know our country. We have a beautiful country and it deserves to be explored and admired. Discover the beauty and charms of Ghana by exploring the country. Those who have means to so should travel around the country, the tourism authority should get it right with internal tourists to cope with foreign tourists''.

He also congratulated the President of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou for gracing Ghana's 62nd Independence day celebration.
