President Akufo Addo has appointed Supreme Court Judge Justice Jones Dotse as chairman of the Council for the University of Allied Sciences in the Volta region.

The Supreme Court Judge’s appointment was contained in a list of chairmen of the councils for some seven public universities which was outdoored by the government yesterday July 14.

The development comes after a Winneba High Court on July 14 upheld an application to restrain the Vice Chancellor Prof. Mawutor Avokeh and Finance Officer of the University of Education, from holding office until a case challenging the legality of their appointment.

The orders from the Court were part of the reliefs granted the interlocutory injunction sought by the plaintiff, Supi Kofi Kwayera whose lawyers argued that the two officers were appointed by a council which's mandate had expired.

The President named Prof Yaw Twumasi, Prof Emeritus Kwame Sarpong, Mrs. Nancy Thompson and Prof. Emmanuel Abaka as board chairpersons of University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, the University of Cape Coast and the University of Education respectively.

The rest of the board Chairs include the Justice Jones Dostse University of Health and Allied Sciences, Nutifafa Kurnyehia University of Development Studies and Dr. Stephen Saforo Yirenkyi University of Mines

Meanwhile, some five universities including Ghana Institute of Journalism, Ghana Institute of Languages, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, University of Professional Studies, Accra and University Of Energy And Natural Resources were left out.
