Deputy minister of trade and industry, Carlos Ahenkorah has apologised to MP for North Tongu Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa for verbally abusing him on Tuesday.

Mr Ahenkorah spewed caustic words on the former deputy education minister when the two were being interviewed over revelations some businessmen who sat on a table with President Akufo-Addo during the Ghana Expatriate Business Awards in Accra, paid as much as $100,000 for the privilege.

"You are a big liar, show me any document, you don't have any document because what you are saying is from your mind, let him know that he is a thief, you have stolen through your life and even through your education." Mr Ahenkorah blasted out without restrained.

The verbal assault has drawn widespread criticism from all political divides, especially after Mr Ahenkorah defended his actions in follow-up interviews on many media platforms.

Some Parliamentarians also threatened to drag him to the Privileges Committee if he did not retract and apologise.

The threats appear to have worked as Mr Ahenkorah has not apologised unreservedly to Mr Ablakwa. In an interview he attributed his rage of the heat of the moment and what he described as the peddling of lies and falsehood by Mr Ablakwa during the interview with the parliamentary press corp.

It is unclear if the apology will halt any moves to drag the Deputy Trades Minister to the Privileges Committee.
