There is an ongoing debate about the reception given to President John Dramani Mahama on his recent visit to Scotland where he was awarded an honourary Doctor of Law degree by the University of Aberdeen.

Sections of Ghanaians, displeased by what many see as an embarrassment, have criticised the Scottish Parliament for their rude behaviour. Others have criticised the visit in its entirety.

But Editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide, Kweku Baako is confused and wants all the facts  to be laid bare before any such criticism.

Speaking on Joy FM's Newsfile on Saturday, the ace socio-political commentator  said, "I'm confused on whether the visit was a state visit or not. I think the main purpose was the honorary Doctor of Law degree and thus was private."

"If it was a state visit, the reception should have been more dignified. The seating arrangement was wrong and you could see discomfort on the faces of the three people in front especially the foreign minister but we do not have all the facts", he added.

When alerted by the host, Samson Lardy Ayenini that official communication from the Flagstaff House stated the visit to be official, Mr Baako replied, " I think there is a difference between state visit and official visit. if they were the same, then I would have taken this as an insult.

"In 2000, President Jerry Rawlings on a visit to Scotland addressed a parliament with only 15 members present because attendance was optional because his visit was deemed as private and it was no big deal", he reminded.
