The Executive Director of the Centre for Ghana Studies (CGS), Professor Harold Boukary-Martinson has given an uncomplimentary assessment of the conduct of British High Commissioner, Jon Benjamin during his time of service in Ghana.

According to the political historian, Mr Benjamin's behaviour is in a very sharp contrast with the accepted standards of a diplomatic behaviour.

Mr Benjamin has, since 2014 when he got to Ghana, carved an image for himself as someone who thrives on controversy.

From mocking Bishop Daniel Obinim, bantering Nana Aba Anamoah on social media to making castigating speeches at events to which he gets invited, he could be described as your unconventional diplomat.

He recently came under massive criticism on Twitter after his supposed joke about the Harmattan season failed to amuse Ghanaians, many of whom chastised him for his botched joke.

According to Prof. Boukary-Martinson, having been a diplomat himself, he found Mr Benajmin's actions as unacceptable.

Speaking in an interview with Joy News TV's Nana Kwao Ansah, he likened the behaviour of the British High Commissioner to that of a "schoolmaster".

"The British High Commissioner is behaving like a schoolmaster who has come here and is telling us what to do which is unconventional".

For him, Mr Benjamin had clearly misused social media and other platforms offered him to and has overstepped is boundaries.

"I am not against him getting involved in the community but it is wrong to go about given speeches at military and police barracks and going on social media to say all sort of things. You will be invited to deliver addresses but you know your limits", he emphasised.
