The Financial and Forensic Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Police have started a probe into the questionable fumigation contracts awarded to the Jospong Group of Companies.

Manasseh Azure Awuni, JoyFm’s lead investigator, uncovered that eleven companies of the controversial businessman were awarded the contracts by the Local Government Ministry to fumigate the various district assemblies at the cost of Ghc 98 million.

Mr. Azure Awuni, who spoke to Primenews in a previous interview, said his investigations revealed that Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Chief Executive Officer, secured the sole sourced deal at a time when government had two spraying contracts with another member of his company,Zoomlion, to do the same job.

The contracts covered the more than the  216 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

A letter from the Police CID addressed to authorities at the station requested for the reporter to be released for them so he assist with investigations.  According to the letter, the reporter is expected to provide documents including audio and videos to assist in the exercise.

According to a  2015 Auditor General Report, more than Two Million Ghana Cedis was deducted from the common fund to provide fumigation exercise, but work was not carried out.

In a related development, Mr. Agyepong is said to have been served with a letter to assist in the investigations.
