African Regent Hotel in Accra have failed to clear debris close to its walls.

The debris which has been there for some days now spreads to the Liberation road.

Leaves and the fallen tree branches are not only littering the street but also not providing a clear walkway for pedestrians.

When Prime News Ghana visited the area on Wednesday, May 29 at 9: 00 am, the wind had spread some of the debris on to the street.

There is also no free movement as portionS of the pavement has been taken over by the leaves and fallen branches.

The Liberation road is one of the most used roads in the capital as it links most part to the main business district, and most businesses are also found in the area.

The situation does not speak well of the country's sanitation efforts.

African Regent Hotel reacts

The Management of the African Regent Hotel, when visited by Prime News Ghana, said they are aware of the situation. According to the Assistant Maintenance Manager at the hotel, Mustapha Majeedu, the recent rains caused the situation and the hotel is working to clear the debris from the pavement.

He further promised Prime News Ghana that African Regent Hotel will address the issue as soon as possible.

Unconcerned authorities

Sanitation issues in the capital have been a major problem from improper disposal of plastic wastes, polythene bags to open defecation. The sanitation challenges have contributed to the perennial flooding recorded annually.

City authorities tasked to make sure the pavements and the hotel environment is kept clean have failed, and the situation is not different from most parts of the city because the authority mandated to see to it that Accra becomes the cleanest city in Africa seems to be doing nothing to help achieve the vision.
