Former President John Mahama has sympathised with the 2016 flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom over the fire incident at his Cocount Regency Hotel in Accra.

The Coconut Regency Hotel, a subsidiary of Dr Nduom's Groupe Nduom franchise, got partly destroyed on Saturday after a part of it housing Amansan TV, GN Bank and other subsidiaries of Groupe Nduom was engulfed in flames which took fire officers over three hours to put out.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, former President Mahama described the  incident is a “major loss” to the country’s hospitality industry.

“Yesterday’s fire at Coconut Grove Regency Hotel is a major loss to our hospitality industry. My thoughts are with Dr and Mrs Nduom and workers of Group Nduom", he posted.

Meanwhile, the management of the hotel has disclosed that the incident was sparked by fire from an air-conditioning facility at ATV.

A statement from the hotel clarified that its restaurant, conference facilities and guest rooms were not affected by the fire.

“It is important to note that the Regency Hotel and its restaurant, guest rooms and conference facilities are intact and were not touched by the fire,” it said.
