The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) says the situation in the three northern regions of Ghana has not reached where a state of emergency should be declared.

Thirty people have lost their lives while thousands have been displaced as a result of floods from the spillage of the excess water from the Bagre Dam in Burkina Faso.

Thousands of acres of farms have been submerged while several mud houses have been demolished.

Due to these, donor agencies and humanitarian organizations such as the UNICEF, World Food Programme, Red Cross Society, Ghana National Fire Service, World Vision, among others, are opting for the declaration of the state of emergency in the three northern regions.

Blessing Ezeibe of the World Food Programme in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale is urging NADMO to consider declaring state of emergency to solicit for funds to assist victims of the flood.

But reacting to the issue on Adom FM on Wednesday which was monitored by PrimeNewsGhana, the Director-General of NADMO, Eric Nana Agyeman Prempeh said, there is no need to declare state of emergency now.

According to him, NADMO is doing its best to calm the situation and more relief items are coming in to serve the victims.

Nana Agyeman said though it is still raining each day in the three northern regions, the spillage of the Bagre Dam, which compounded the situation has reduced.
