The current registration and renewal of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards will soon be a thing of the past, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Samuel Yaw Annor, has said.
Under the new registration and renewal system, subscribers will use their mobile phones to undertake such transactions without necessarily waiting in a queue for several hours in the various NHIS offices.
Chief Executive Officer of the National NHIA, Dr. Samuel Yaw Annor, revealed this during an encounter with stakeholders in Kumasi on Tuesday June 19, 2018.
He explained that the activity is part of measures to eradicate the difficulties people go through to renew expired cards and register for new ones.
Dr. Annor said subscribers spend several hours at the NHIS centers to either renew or register for their cards but when the new system is rolled out, the offices that people go to sit for long hours will be a thing of the past.
The CEO explained that the NHIA is waiting for the completion of the Ghana Card by the National Identification Authority (NIA) because “subscribers will use the Ghana Card for the registrationâ€.
He said currently, the new system is being piloted in parts of Accra and it will be spread across the entire country when the Ghana Card registration is completed.
