The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has allayed the fears of the general public over claims plastic rice is on the Ghanaian market.

Ghanaians have been left in a state of confusion after rumors flooded social media of purported plastic rice being sold in the country. The rumor created panic among consumers who further went on to warn others to either stay away from purchasing the rice, or scrutinize it very well.

But the FDA at a Press Conference in Accra denied the report and assured consumers  current rice in the market is safe for consumption.

Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of FDA Mrs. Delese A. Darko, said after an intensive research conducted by the outfit together with international bodies, they have discovered that the reports are untrue.

"There is currently no plastic rice in the market. We are monitoring the situation with the international community to see the way forward and the Ghanaian community would be duly informed if such rice is found in the market,"she stated.

She added that; "as to what is happening on social media, we will continue to monitor it but cannot say why they are doing it."

Mrs. Darko stressed the FDA would continue to ensure products consumed by Ghanaians are safe for their health.
